Please join us, on our weekly theater broadcast. We will broadcast three lectures about art and mathematics.
12pmCST - 1pmCST
Is mathematics more art than science
Dr. Keith Devlin in conversation with Dr. Alejandro Garcia, Professor of Physics at San Jose State. A fascinating look at both sides of this question from two brilliant minds.
1pmCST - 2pmCST
Eschermatics - Roger Rose
Roger Penrose's relationship with the artist M.C. Escher was not just one of mutual admiration. Roger's thinking was consistently influenced by Escher, from the famous Penrose tiling to his groundbreaking work in cosmology.
2pmCST - 3.10pmCST
Visual art meets mathematics
Mathematics and algorithms have enabled the art of paper folding to reach incredible heights, creating a beautiful sculpture from a single uncut square of paper. This lecture discusses how mathematical "universality" results enable the design of origami in almost any shape, and gives examples of the art and science that this theory has created.
Erik Demaine Professor in Computer Science
The broadcast will be played on our theater page, once the broadcast starts you can also chat on that same page.
