Introduction

Astral projection (or astral travel) refers to episodes of out-of-body experiences perceived as unfolding in environments other than the physical world, by an astral counterpart of the physical body that separates from it and travels to one or more astral planes. Astral projection is experienced as being "out of the body". Unlike dreaming or near death experiences, astral projection may be practiced deliberately.

Descriptions of such experiences are found in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife, with the soul's journey or "ascent" being described in such terms as "an...out-of-body experience" wherein the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in his/her subtle body (or dreambody or astral body) into ‘other’ realms."

There is limited scientific evidence regarding the validity of astral projection, and more typically reports of such experiences are subjective and anecdotal. The belief that one has had an out-of-body experience, whether spoken of as "astral projection" or not, is common. Hundreds of personal accounts of astral projection were published in a number of books through the 1960s and 70s. Surveys have reported percentages ranging from 8% (as much as 50% in certain groups of respondents) who state they have had such an experience. Because of the subjective nature of the experience, however, there are a number of materialist explanations that do not rely on the existence of an "astral" body and plane.

Thanks again SikWilly, I like your suggestion on focusing on the buzzing in the ears- I do hear that, so will give it a try.

I am aware of Seth's teachings thru Jane Roberts, so, yes, working on ones beliefs is very important- Thanks for your timely reminder.

Try this as well, as you lay in bed to go to sleep, suggest to yourself that you will pretend to be awake while you sleep. Suggest that instead of falling asleep, you will come into another kind of wakefulness. Try to imagine that you are awake when you sleep. Interesting things will happen. I won't tell you what, because it could be completely different than what I've experienced. But, it will help you become aware of transitions between one state of consciousness to another.

Also look into isochronic tones. They are more efficient than binural beats. I'm sure you've heard of those. They help me hit the vibrations quicker. SikWilly, that was an excellent description. As of the last year, I've delved into channeling, specifically the channeling of Seth. The books by Jane Roberts are amazing. Seth tells us that our ability to project consciousness is a natural ability that we all can do. The only reason it becomes difficult for us is purely our beliefs. I've discovered that my troubles with successful projection lies within my beliefs about myself and my ability to do it. I've always felt it was something difficult to achieve. I always looked at others who could do it so well and so easily, and saw myself as less naturally inclined. I have had all these beliefs that have held me back. So, Mwatcher, I suggest you to change your beliefs. Tell yourself everyday that projection comes naturally, and it's easy. Convince yourself that it's something you can do. While you meditate, repeat to yourself words of your choosing that are in line with your change in beliefs. As long as you believe you can't quite do it, you'll never be able to do it. I still have this issue, but it's because I haven't taken the time to change my beliefs. I will do it soon :)

Thanks for your comments and suggestions-I will experiment with them.

And by the way, galantamine and the other suggested supplements in

the book mentioned, are over the counter-you can find some of them on Amazon.com .

I spent a lot of time when I was younger trying to project. I was on and off and back on about it for some time. But the last good streak of practicing I did proved somewhat successful. I read a book called Astral Projection: The Power of Supplements, which was about certain substances that increased the chances of conscious projection. The one it said worked the best was called Galantamine, which is used for people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. It works in two ways, it inhibits the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain and also increases the production of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a primary part of constructing memory in the brain, hence its use for Alzheimer's. It has a very very long breakdown period in the body and stays in your body for about 48 hours I believe. You gain a tolerance very quickly so once you use it, you're supposed to take a break for 2-3 days before using it, if you want best results. So, I woke up early each morning for about a week, around 4AM. I tried it the first two days without Galantamine, then I used it for 3 days in a row. I hit vibrations noticeably quicker the first time, but I used it consecutively so it built up in my system. By the third day of using it, I broke through. It was sneaky, I had the vibrations and they stopped. I thought I failed, so I sat up and felt a very weird sensation in my hip area. I felt stuck. I pulled and pulled and finally broke free and turned around, only to see myself laying there asleep. I got so excited and began drifting up away from the bed. My vision got blurry and I had an overall rushing feeling. I had drifted off into dreamscape. I've had other interesting experiences like this, without Galantamine or any other substance, but that's about as far as I get. One time I had something pull my legs off of the bed and keep pulling and pulling but my head wouldn't budge. I was certain whatever it was, it had its reasons to pull me out and communicate with me, so I tried to let it help me out. But it failed. My head stayed in my head so I pulled my legs back up, turned over (physically) and received an odd phone call. It was 3AM, so my friend calling was very weird. He asked if it was okay to talk and told me that his girlfriend experience some, haunting-like, events at her house. He was seriously freaked out, and she was horrified. The entity pulled my legs, thus waking me up say 30 seconds before the phone call. I know there was a connection, but to this day I'm not sure what. Since then, not much to report. I keep a dream journal, I've done it for about a year now. 40 something dreams, so my focus remains there for now.
