The Western Mysteries: An Encyclopedic Guide to the Sacred Languages & Magickal Systems of the World

I glanced at this out of the corner of my eye at a local bookstore, and one flip through it there was no question as to this book going home with me. For others, take note its much less expensive on Amazon hehe.

I have not yet seen a better reference book for the study of correspondences, this one is truly packed full of great charts and listings of how various systems relate to each other, how translations came about, and much more. For the Western Mystic, this seem to be a "must have" for anyone who is serious about getting at the details in their studies.

From Kabbalah to Alchemy to Astrology this book has their mappings covered from A - Z. With an emphasis on language itself, I feel it can really help to break down barrier and get at the root of many of these aspects discussed.

It's a companion book to the Eastern Mysteries, another fantastic book documenting other areas such as Sanskrit, Buddhist, Chinese, etc...

If you have a chance to pick up this wonderful title and/or and its counterpart, I am confident you will find it beneficial. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Ah!  I just figured out how to find the discussion.... I'm better, sometimes, at the old arcane stuff than the "now" technology...

With an emphasis on the language, it has to be helpful--- the ancient languages had so much more packed into them  (the sounds were organic, the words were formed from concepts that the species shared) than do modern languages.  Plus, if it's from Llewellyn, it's gotta be good.  Thanks.

I know just what you mean Peggy...Me too! Yes and yes...Newer is not always better.

This looks great...For many of us books are where it's at...Old tech and more than comfortable... We're putting together a "mystical library".

Aaah two of my favourite books that I bought a while back. This is a good starting point to discuss books. Besides listing correspondences this book and its companion book, really gives much more in terms of background and understanding. This is definitely also one of the best source books to get a glimpse into the Enochain system as the eleventh key. In terms of the twelve key or Tarot the book is as complete on the topic as any of my other books on the Tarot. I certainly concur that this book is a good reference book for anybody who wants to deepen their understanding of the different system, correspondences and numerology.

Thank you much for expanding on this Jurgens, and I agree. This seems to much better be utilized as reference material, of which I constantly find myself going back to time after time to see what it has to say of the correspondences. Another thing I really like in that regard, it that many times it will give several peoples interpretations of a particular system right next to each other for comparison, so the reader can better determine how individuals came to various conclusions, and how they map to that which others have done.

Thanks again
