Hey! Action! Great...

I'm getting Anima.

Jung says about dreaming of snakes: “Snake dreams always indicate a discrepancy between the attitude of the conscious mind and instinct, the snake being a personification of the threatening aspect of that conflict.”

This can take you deeply into your subjective definition of "conscious mind" and "instinct." Instinct said you wouldn't be harmed, but your subconscious mind said "I don't dare touch it."

The mention of your wife in question as the one who offers you "something" (and I believe this "something" is the key to the dream) led me to the idea of anima—have you been studying this topic lately?

This article is a might long, but well worth the read if you're interested: http://ejop.psychopen.eu/article/view/389/288

I see the road after the stretch of the snake to be an invitation to travel on the road to your integrated soul.

Katrina: not sure of (?)venomosity of snakes in my dreams. Its more the non-rationality & physical characteristics of snakes that I have feared, but I was clear in this dream that if I challenged this fear I would be empowered rather than hurt. In real life I have handled a python once & slowworms on many occasions without fear.

Frater: Question for you. What quality is it in your niece that you would like to possess & integrate within yourself?

Here's a significant dream I had last week.

I am carrying a leather briefcase I bought in Greece 20+ years ago when someone (my wife?) hands me something, taking hold of which causes me to drop the case. Im horrified to see a mid-sized snake leap out angrily & realise I should've carried it with more care. But it seems to have become entangled with something & turns into an Uroboros, spinning round in a circle on the ground. I dont dare touch it.

But as I wake I realise this is an opportunity to engage with a primally personal scenario that has haunted me since childood. So I reenter the dream & force myself to reach down & take hold of the snake, in the knowledge that it isnt venomous & wont bite me. When I seize hold it stands up on its tail like Moses' serpent that turned into a road. I realise I make find out how to look after it.

The significance is that when I was at boarding school aged about 11 as a cathedral chorister I had extreme nightmares about snakes, which disturbed others in my dormitory, so I was put to sleep in the sickbay. I suppose it went on for 10 days or so. Thereafter I had a phobia about snakes. I came to see it as a shamanic irruption as I became conscious both of sexuality & creativity, by both of which I was deeply troubled in my teens & ended up running away from school. But it wasnt until I was in my early 30s that I began to develop a serious interest in dreams & became aware of the duality that snakes hold as symbols both of sexuality & wisdom, and the importance of integrating both.

Ive had various snake dreams over the years, but this recent one seemed a very clear invitation to engage with these primal issues. And that was partly what led me to look online for a possible dream group. I used to moderate a Marie-Louise von Franz discussion group for several years, but that faded about 4 years ago.

Hi Michael. I'm new, too. You're in the right place, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic through here... I'd be happy to read your posts and engage—it may invite others to return.

Im new, so before posting a dream Id like to check that Im in the right place? Ive been studying & databasing my dreams for 30 years & have now reached 2364. I began to follow this path seriously when I saw Marie-Louise von Franz's film series The Way of the Dream. I have placed semincal clips from this on http://uk.youtube.com/Maxwellsteer, but I see that some people have uploaded all the films onto uTube. Well worthwhile. MMS

hi all,

I had dream almost every night, all vivid with color, sometimes with others memories come inside my head. I started analysis my dream since I was 13 years old. It always brings me lots information and help me to understand myself. I want to share a dream that I had in this morning. In my dream I saw two squirrels and two wolves running towards me. One of the wolves was huge, it jumped on me and lick my face. I was terrified in dream. However, it acts so friendly so warm with passion. Then I realize it was a huge dog. And I have no idea what is the type of dog, until I search the internet this afternoon. I found a picture of the dog in my dream, its name Saluki. And it’s somehow related with Egypt culture. That makes me realizes there is a connection between me and the spiritual world.  The dog represent my spirit guardian, she is here to watch over me and don't fear the future, be open or something like that. After I understand the message in dream, it makes me feel better.

Now, I dont have any earth shaking dreams, but i do have really wierd, confusing ones. For a few weeks now, I have been having the same dream. I would be running with my cross country team, and I would be running faster than the rest. Lap after lap I'm passing them, while they are all taking their sweet time. After a while i realize i keep passing the same spot, while everyone else is way ahead of me down the road. I have a feeling I know what it means, but some insight might help
