MUSIC IS THE FATHER OF MATHEMATICS.

MUSIC IS THE FATHER OF ALL SCIENCE.

MUSIC IS GOD IN HIS TOTAL, COMPLETE, FORM.

(An inscription for the front of the temple)

A Pythagorean School of Music could be built as a working part of Esoteric Island. To begin with it would not be called a school – it would be called a Temple of Music. It will necessarily combine the ancient practices along with modern updates for people of today who are more advanced than they were in Pythagoras's day. They are able to withstand higher frequency tune-ups which would have devastated people back in his day. He was far ahead of his time.

1. Entrance Hall

To begin with there should be an Entrance Hall where it is determined as nearly as possible what a person's musical tone is – that which he vibrates to with his blood and most of his organs. (separate description attached).

Every element in Nature has its individual keynote. If these elements are combined in a composite structure the result is a chord that, if sounded, will disintegrate the compound into its integral parts. Likewise each individual has a keynote that, if sounded, will destroy him. The allegory of the walls of Jericho falling when the trumpets of Israel were sounded is undoubtedly intended to set forth the arcane significance of individual keynote or vibration.

2. Initiates Hall #1

From here the person would enter where they would be put through a tuning of the chakras. Picturing each chakras as a small colored spinning ball they would listen to a description of the levels (up to 7) of each chakra and then the major scale would be  played for each chakra.

There are numerous arbitrary arrangements setting forth the mutual relationships of the planets, the colors, and the musical notes. The most satisfactory system is that based upon the law of the octave. The sense of hearing has a much wider scope than that of sight, for whereas the ear can register from nine to eleven octaves of sound the eye is restricted to the cognition of but seven fundamental color tones, or one tone short of the octave. Red, when posited as the lowest color tone in the scale of chromatics, thus corresponds to do, the first note of the musical scale. Continuing the analogy, orange corresponds to re, yellow to mi, green to fa, blue to sol, indigo to la, and violet to si (ti). The eighth color tone necessary to complete the scale should be the higher octave of red, the first color tone. The accuracy of the above arrangement is attested by two striking facts: (1) the three fundamental notes of the musical scale--the first, the third, and the fifth--correspond with the three primary colors--red, yellow, and blue; (2) the seventh, and least perfect, note of the musical scale corresponds with purple, the least perfect tone of the color scale.

When the colors are related to the twelve signs of the zodiac, they are arranged as the spokes of a wheel. To Aries is assigned pure red; to Taurus, red-orange; to Gemini, pure orange; to Cancer, orange-yellow; to Leo, pure yellow; to Virgo, yellow-green; to Libra, pure green; to Scorpio, green-blue; to Sagittarius, pure blue; to Capricorn, blue-violet; to Aquarius, pure violet; and to Pisces, violet-red.

3. Intiates Hall #2

Then in Intiates Hall #2  they will partake in a musical releasement workshop in which music and color is used to reach and eliminate unwanted attitudes and memories stored in their cells. (separate description attached).

Pythagoras of Samos, a very wise teacher of ancient Greece, knew how to work with sound. He taught his students how certain musical chords and melodies produce definite responses within the human organism. He demonstrated that the right sequence of sounds, played musically on an instrument, can change behavior patterns and accelerate the healing process.

4. Musical Spa

Meanwhile while waiting for a large enough number to partake in the musical releasement workshop, they will enter the Musical Spa. They will sit at a table reserved for their particular musical tone. It will be decored in their color. Fruit drinks of this color will be available. Musical bells will play harmonies found in their musical scale. There will of necessity be 12 of these rooms.

In constructing their temples of initiation, the early priests frequently demonstrated their superior knowledge of the principles underlying the phenomena known as vibration. A considerable part of the Mystery rituals consisted of invocations and intonements, for which purpose special sound chambers were constructed. A word whispered in one of these apartments was so intensified that the reverberations made the entire building sway and be filled with a deafening roar. The very wood and stone used in the erection of these sacred buildings eventually became so thoroughly permeated with the sound vibrations of the religious ceremonies that when struck they would reproduce the same tones thus repeatedly impressed into their substances by the rituals.

5. Great Hall

From here they would enter the Great Hall where they would go through the  Creation Experience Workshop. This workshop would be done in groups with at least 12 or more in a group. This is an elaborate workshop done with music and black light (separate description attached).

Pythagoras taught that each of the seven planets produced by its orbit a particular note according to its distance from the still centre which was the Earth. The distance in each case was like the subdivisions of the string refered to above. This is what was called Musica Mundana, which is usually translated as Music of the Spheres. The sound produced is so exquisite and rarified that our ordinary ears are unable to hear it. It is the Cosmic Music which, according to Philo of Alexandria, Moses had heard when he recieved the Tablets on Mount Sinai, and which St Augustine believed men hear on the point of death, revealing to them the highest reality of the Cosmos. (Carlo Bertelli, Piero della Francesca, p. 60.) This music is present everywhere and governs all temporal cycles, such as the seasons, biological cycles, and all the rhythms of nature. Together with its underlying mathematical laws of proportion it is the sound of the harmony of the created being of the universe, the harmony of what Plato called the "one visible living being, containing within itself all living beings of the same natural order".

6. Science Hall

This Hall will be a workshop room with scientific experiments with music such as the following:

a.         String Experiment (separate description attached).

b.         Masculine and Feminine Numbers

Odd numbers were considered masculine; even numbers feminine because they are weaker than the odd. When divided they have, unlike the odd, nothing in the center. Further, the odds are the master, because odd + even always give odd. And two evens can never produce an odd, while two odds produce an even.

Since the birth of a son was considered more fortunate than birth of a daughter, odd numbers became associated with good luck. "The gods delight in odd numbers," wrote Virgil.

c.         Sacred Tetractys

One particular triangular number that they especially liked was the number ten. It was called a Tetractys, meaning a set of four things, a word attributed to the Greek Mathematician and astronomer Theon (c. 100 CE). The Pythagoreans identified ten such sets.

d.         Since light is the basic physical manifestation of life, bathing all creation in its radiance, it is highly important to realize, in part at least, the subtle nature of this divine substance. That which is called light is actually a rate of vibration causing certain reactions upon the optic nerve. Few realize how they are walled in by the limitations of the sense perceptions. Not only is there a great deal more to light than anyone has ever seen but there are also unknown forms of light which no optical equipment will ever register. There are unnumbered colors which cannot be seen, as well as sounds which cannot be heard, odors which cannot be smelt, flavors which cannot be tasted, and substances which cannot be felt. Man is thus surrounded by a supersensible universe of which he knows nothing because the centers of sense perception within himself have not been developed sufficiently to respond to the subtler rates of vibration of which that universe is composed.

e.         Also the Vibratory Charts on the wall to be worked on and filled out by those interested. These Vibratory Charts would be the ultimate fullfillment of Pythagoras's work.

Having once established music as an exact science, Pythagoras applied his newly found law of harmonic intervals to all the phenomena of Nature, even going so far as to demonstrate the harmonic relationship of the planets, constellations, and elements to each other. A notable example of modern corroboration of ancient philosophical reaching is that of the progression of the elements according to harmonic ratios. While making a list of the elements in the ascending order of their atomic weights, John A. Newlands discovered at every eighth element a distinct repetition of properties. This discovery is known as the law of octaves in modern chemistry.

f.          Other inventions using music such as the blood test machine and the healing machine will also be explored.

7. Concert Hall

Before leaving the Temple of Music they will attend a concert of original music by members of Esoteric Online. Any instruments can be used and any type of music will be incorporated but it must be original with members.

Pythagoras was very interested in music, and so were his followers. The Pythagoreans were musicians as well as mathematicians. Pythagoras wanted to improve the music of his day, which he believed was not harmonious enough and was too hectic.

Pythagoras evinced such a marked preference for stringed instruments that he even went so far as to warn his disciples against allowing their ears to be defiled by the sounds of flutes or cymbals. He further declared that the soul could be purified from its irrational influences by solemn songs sung to the accompaniment of the lyre. In his investigation of the therapeutic value of harmonics, Pythagoras discovered that the seven modes--or keys--of the Greek system of music had the power to incite or allay the various emotions.

The therapeutic music of Pythagoras is described by Iamblichus thus: "And there are certain melodies devised as remedies against the passions of the soul, and also against despondency and lamentation, which Pythagoras invented as things that afford the greatest assistance in these maladies. And again, he employed other melodies against rage and anger, and against every aberration of the soul. There is also another kind of modulation invented as a remedy against desires." (See The Life of Pythagoras.)

Well, Norma, you are going to need to get your music on the island working first hehe.

Serious though, you an I have talked about, i've talked about to steve and to mac, we all need to collaborate on one and reconcile things together for full integration. For example, if there are small differences in colors to be used in notes, lets work together on conclusions for the discrepancies. In this way, when we reach the final result, it will be all encompassing, refined - its impact will be phenomenal and at its maximum.

Of course I'll do building an interactive work on this, but lets meld all these ideas into one. For example, the musical spheres in the sandbox will be changing colors, and scripts are being written to play them as Pythagorean chords/tones. Aspects of these could be used in several areas.

Perhaps as well, if this was built near the auditorium, it could serve as the concert hall, connected from the other side.

As always, i'm happy to to anyone to build, and don't mind doing a lot of the building. Since we only have so many resources on the island though, we'll need to work together on one Music Temple, as there could probably be four or five of them right now ;)

Tris and Mac - Glad to hear from both of you. I can't do any building because I don't know programming (unless you think I can learn the second life software). So the only thing I'm good for is ideas.

Yes, we do need to cooperate. I don't know what is possible and what isn't as far as the second life platform goes, so my ideas my not be feasible. The only way I, personally, could incorporate some of my workshops would be as videos.

Incidentally all the text in italic in the blog came from internet sites about Pythagoras. My material is in plain text.

I'm excited to think about it being built. I'm open to changes - I was just tossing ideas in the air. For instance the inscription doesn't have to be as I stated it and Tris I don't know what differences in colors there are. The colors on the internet sites match mine but may not be absolutely perfect.

(From the internet) Red, when posited as the lowest color tone in the scale of chromatics, thus corresponds to do, the first note of the musical scale.

I don't know what to do about the problem of not being to hear the music. The only thing I can do is wait until Neil gets here the week after the 4th of July and maybe he can figure it out for me. Until then I'll just have to wing it.

I don't understand why the spheres will be changing colors.

What is the best way to coordinate all this? Should we have weekly meetings on the island with Mac and Steve and any others who are interested or just communicate back and forth by messaging, or both? I don't know what Steve's strong points are as far as building - Mac says he is just learning - but could certain tasks be assigned to different people? Maybe I could do online research as part of my contribution.

Of course it can be built near the auditorium and use it as a concert hall. You know best, Tris, as far as where it should be built. And yes, there needs to be just one Temple of Music. And we do need to coordinate our vision as to what it can accomplish. It needs to be the shining best.

Going back over my material on the Science of Music I discovered that Donoray, the entity bringing through most of the material for the Science of Music, was actually Pythagoras in a previous life. The following is part of what I found.

"Donoray is one of the facets of Norma’s universe. As far as how many facets each one has, it is different for everyone depending on their growth in evolution and how many incarnations on the earth plane was required to achieve the standing. This is something that will be very personal for each. Norma has approximately 136 different facets. Many of these have moved out of this solar system.

She would be capable of contact with them if truly desired. She has some that are at every level or plane on earth’s inner planes. There are many at level seven, many at levels five and six, and about ten at level ten.

Donoray was Pythagoras which means that Norma is related to Pythagoras. This is very hard to describe. When we say Donoray is a facet it means that he is a more advanced part of one branch of the family tree that Norma descended from."

Let's get the show on the road!!
