A song for all of us who have been discriminated against for been who we are...

The song was made by Dutch band Star One as a tribute to the 1997 film Gattaca. In the film - set in the future - humanity's future society is driven by eugenics, with potential children been genetically manipulated to ensure they possess the best hereditary traits of their parents. In the movie, A genetic registry database uses biometrics to instantly identify and classify those so created as "valids" while those conceived by traditional means and more susceptible to genetic disorders are derisively known as "in-valids". While discrimination against someone for their genetics is forbidden, the story shows that 'Valids' are given professional jobs while 'Invalids' are forced to undergo menial jobs.

The film itself focuses on Vincent Freeman - played by Ethan Hawke - who was conceived outside the eugenics program and struggles to overcome the discrimination against him due to been an 'invalid' and to realize his dream of becoming an astronaut and traveling into space.

It's an interesting movie that explores the argument over tampering with human genetics, as well as looking at the idea of destiny - particularly how it can affect us and the paths our lives take.

I feel the song really fits with today as well, with the discrimination people with Autism, Aspergers, ADHD, ADD and other conditions face in modern life - both from individuals and organizations such as Autism Speaks and the Judge Rotenberg Centre.

I hope you enjoy it.
