There's a certain reptile who plays a crucial role in the Taoist wheel: Dragon! Dragon is the East, the liver and gall bladder, the spring .... the warming power that leads to the full blown heat of summer, which in the Chinese iconography is represented by a red pheasant. Dragon's opposite in the West is the white tiger. Green and white - inhale and exhale - thunder and lake - shiny smooth skin and fur, and so forth! Thus reptiles are inherently beloved and included in the natural system of one of the world's oldest living philosophies.
