Any true effort needs a foundation to be built upon.
The "true" is you and yours.
Anything that compromises this truth, needs to be understood.
Through this "understanding" two answers are provided.
One of the internal, and one of the external.
The foundation is not the result of this that you build upon.
But your ability to work through compromise.
Your ability is your foundation.
In Raja Yoga, we have Yama and Niyama.
Get you shit in order, basically.
This is the skill, and the foundation.
Got a late bill, deal with it. Make sure it doesn't happen again.
Emotionally charged relationship, deal with it.
Reduce the charge or discard.
Negative environment, deal with it. Move or reduce the negativity.
In dealing with these external influences, another type of meditation must be employed to allow for separation.
Separation of the observer from the situation.
I cannot "fix" what I do not "see".
If you are caught up in it then you have no control.
Your are washing away in the tide as it were.
There is no decision making ability while gasping for air.
The breathe starts from inside.
Stoicism helps with this, from a practical standpoint.
When surrounded by chaos, accept this:
"If YOU are distressed by anything external,
the pain (pleasure) is NOT due to the thing itself,
but to YOUR estimate of it;
and this you have the POWER to REVOKE at ANY MOMENT."
