The Tradition of Aurum Solis is defined by what is called the "Golden Chain" (of the Masters).
This Western Tradition is rooted in Hermeticism, a tradition which consists of theurgic practices associated with a rational approach of the mysteries of life. This tradition describes the high origins of the human soul and how it has descended into the physical world. It also explains the meaning of this descent, revealing the way in which the soul can return to the divine world.
This pre-Christian tradition, Hermeticism, gave to the world some of its greatest scientists and philosophers. Polytheism, the main religious expression of this time gave to this tradition its high moral standards. Spiritual paths are numerous! However, the work on ourselves and initiation are the only ways to reach the next step of our evolution!
In the past, the monotheistic religious authorities have attacked this tradition, as well as famous scientists that were already able to measure the diameter of the earth in the first century of our era. Under the blows of these intolerant groups, mankind has lost 2,000 years of progress. But since the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century, the veil began to lift. This was slowly the case for both science and spiritual traditions.
Since then, the theurgic and Hermetic tradition continued to be secretly transmitted in Europe until its modern revival in 1897. Aurum Solis is a unique example of such an initiatic and spiritual organization that remains rooted in the original spiritual values developed by its founders. From the beginning, this initiatic Order is attached to its clear and single line working vigorously to improve the visibility of the original Western tradition.
Highlighting the unique features of this spiritual path, Aurum Solis shows the urgency to see life differently. Dogmas are dangerous. Chaos is risky. It is vital to rediscover a tolerant and traditional path to the divine. We cannot do it all alone and this is the role of a serious initiatic Tradition - to help us. This is the duty of the Aurum Solis. - Jean-Louis de Biasi (Lifetime Grand Master)
Ordo Aurum Solis ("Order of the Gold of the Sun") is a Hermetic and Theurgic order founded in England in 1897 by George Stanton and Charles Kingold. It is a vehicle of the Ogdoadic Tradition, itself an important element of theWestern Mystery Tradition. Ordo Aurum Solis is best known through the published works of two of its past Grand Masters, Vivian Godfrey and Leon Barcynski. Better known by their pseudonyms, Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips, the husband and wife team together authored many books (some reappearing in newer editions) that cover different aspects of magical practice, such as the Llewellyn Practical Guide to Astral Projection and Llewellyn Practical Guide to Creative Visualization, as well as their seminal work (reprinted in three volumes) outlining the philosophy and practices of Ordo Aurum Solis: The Magical Philosophy.
Despite a few similarities to theHermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, some of its descendants, various Thelemic orders, and other groups stemming from the Rosicrucian revival of the 19th century, Ordo Aurum Solis represents a distinct and unique system of magical philosophy and practice based on the Ogdoadic Tradition.
Its signature symbol is the Eight-pointed Star of Regeneration, an emblem signifying the Regeneration of the Soul and Divine Inspiration. The symbols and philosophy of the Ogdoadic Tradition were also expressed in Byzantine art.
