Israel Regardie, Aleister Crowley, Madam Blavatsky, and many others had their own definition of what "magic" is. I won't debate the details of their definitions, but I think we can agree to some degree that magic involves the interaction with human consciousness and the higher vibratory realms.
This interaction can lead to earthly manifestations and everything in between.
Now based on this premise I would like consider something that might be strange.
Logically I can make the argument that all worshipped gods, spirits, demons, and angels are ultimately just pop stars trying to sell records.
At the fundamental basis of this beings is energy. Natural, home made energy.
Its when there is interaction with the human consciousness (and all of its imperfections) do we produce a face, a figure. Projecting ourselves onto the energy, and thus a form whereby actions and attributes are then imagined and produced and attached to said energy.
All of these thoughts become structures for the energy to be explained, interacted with, and passed down.
Force and form, male and female, ying and yang, etc.
If you can accept the idea that human consciousness can interact with these energies and shape them, then you should also be able to accept that these gods, spirits, demons, and angels can be created and manipulated, by humans. (Think egregores and servitors).
This could also explain why these entities wax and wan through history. Sometimes they were worshipped as holy, then they were replaced by new faces and names (Greek vs Roman gods; pagans holidays and Christian).
It was the attention of the society that feed the construct.
This is a lot to consider, but the final idea I would like to present is, be-careful who and what you worship.
You probably don't know where it's been.
Oh yeah, on a more earthly dimension, white sage is commonly prescribed on the internet as something used for banishing. In the native American tradition its actually used for attracting spirits.
Yep, I got burnt by that one (I live in the US).
Tread carefully and consciously. All truths are but half truths.
The missing half is probably you.
