Tantra, is a religious philosophy, a sacred science of knowing the infinite in and through the finite- the limited world of form, it deals primarily with spiritual practices and ritual forms of worship, which aim at liberation from ignorance and rebirth. The scope of Tantra is vast, covering every aspect of man's life from early morning to late at night, and from birth to death. It intends to make life more harmonious and blissful in every action and situation, and is for everyone from housewife to sannyasin. It teaches full knowledge and utilisation of the world around us in an attempt to 'tune-in' with higher consciousness. It teaches knowledge and experience of the macrocosm through the microcosm, of the unlimited by means of the limited, of supreme consciousness through individual consciousness.

The word 'tantra' is made up of two words, 'tanoti' and 'trayati'. 'Tanoti' means 'to expand, stretch or extend', and 'trayati' means 'to liberate or free'. Through Tantra, which encompasses all aspects of life, we can use the world as a stepping stone to go 'beyond' and discover our divine nature. Thus the objective universe is utilised as a launching pad into the eternal. So Tantra means expanding one's awareness, extending the frontiers of the mind beyond the mind in an effort to attain spiritual knowledge and liberation.
Tantra is a compendium of many systems encompassing the entire span of human life and activity. It deals with the body, emotions, psyche, mind and spirit, with human work, play, thought, devotion, and interaction at all levels.

Tantra is a practical system - 'sadhana, shastra', a practice-orientated scripture, and its purposes is to impart spiritual illumination to each and every individual by any means suitable. The philosophical concepts of Tantra reach the loftiest heights in this effort to express the inexpressible, to make comprehensible that which cannot be grasped by the ordinary consciousness. Yet it has not lost touch with practical application. It comprises a vast number of practices to suit all personality types, combined with the highest concepts realised by the tantric sages in deep meditation, throughout the ages. As a science it does not ask the practitioner to accept anything at face value. Validity must be proved through personal experience. This is the tantric essence.

Tantra is a universal system. Though there may be local differences, the basic premise is the same, that for the sake of understanding, worship and spiritual sadhana, existence is divided into two principles: manifest and unmanifest or Shakti and Shiva. This concept of Shiva (Consciousness) and Shakti (Cosmic Mother) does not depend on time, place and race, but is deeply ingrained in man's collective psyche. Tantra has carried this symbology and tradition from time immemorial to the present day as an expression of the deeper realisation of man.

The "Varahi Tantra'' classifies the main subjects of Tantra as:
- consciousness;
- the creation and destruction of the universe (shristi and pralaya),
- worship of deities (devi or deva puja),
- classification of beings,
- astronomy and astrology,
- different levels of awareness (lokas),
- nadis and chakras,
- laws and duties in society,
- sacramental rites (samskaras),
- consecration of the forms of deities,
- mantra,
- yantra and mandala,
- mudra,
- sadhaka,
- pooja,
- consecration of houses and wells etc.,
- description of shrines,
- yoga maya sadhana (magic),
- diksha,
- yoga,
- medicine of many types, including ayurveda, and science.

Tantra also included alchemy, the art of living a fruitful and blissful life, and the use of sexual energy as a means to unfold higher awareness.

Practical Tantra is summed up by three main aspects:
- tantra (meaning the rules, principles, and the actual system)
- mantra (the vehicle of consciousness) and
- mandala or yantra (the form of consciousness).
Within these three is included everything in the material universe. In fact, everything around us, including ourselves, is composed of mantra and yantra.

Pravritti and Nivritti Marg In Tantra Scientifically, evolution is defined as the process where more refined life forms grow and develop out of the less refined, that is to say, more advanced life forms arise out of lower forms; the gross producing the subtle. This is the theory of scientific evolution as propounded by Darwin. However, Tantra has a completely different concept of evolution. Tantra regards the refinement of life forms as being merely the pattern of the manifested world. It is the blueprint or design, but not the source of life as we know it. The true meaning of evolution revealed to the sages thousands of years before Darwin, is the process of Shakti arising or evolving out of Shiva, of the material evolving from the immaterial.....

Osho Tantra

“You are born with the capacity to love, but you are not born with the art of love. That art of love has to be taught, has to be imbibed.

People feel bored with their wives and with their husbands. The reason is they have not been able to contact the other’s real soul. They have been able to contact the body, but they have missed the contact that happens heart to heart, center to center, soul to soul. Once you know how to contact soul to soul, when you have become soul-mates, then there is no boredom at all. Then there is always something to discover in the other because each being is an infinity, and each being contains God Himself. There is no end to exploring. Unless you become capable of decoding the inner mystery of your woman or your man, you will sooner or later get fed up, bored.

That’s why I say Tantra should become a compulsory phenomenon for all human beings. Each school, each college, each university, should teach Tantra. Tantra is the science of contacting souls, of going to the deepest core of the other. Only in a world which knows the art of Tantra will this boredom disappear; otherwise it cannot disappear.
Unless you learn the secret art of Tantra…

Tantra is one of the most important secrets ever discovered. But it is very delicate because it is the GREATEST art. To paint is easy, to create poetry is easy, but to create a communion with the energy of the other, a dancing communion, is the greatest and the most difficult art to learn.

People are against me because I am telling people how to love. I am telling people how to make love a prayer. I am telling people how to love so deeply that love itself becomes your religion — that your woman one day disappears and you find God there, that your man one day disappears and you find God there; that one day, in deep communion, in deep orgasmic experience, in that ecstasy, for a moment you both disappear and there is only God and nothing else.

Remember, there is no need to be afraid of women, no need to be afraid of men. We are all alike, the same God. We have to learn how to love each other. We have to come closer to each other because that is the only way to come close to God. Love is one of the greatest doors to God, just as awareness is another.

The East has followed the way of awareness and become lopsided. The West has followed the way of love and has become lopsided. I teach you both: a loving awareness, a conscious love; and with this you will become integrated, you will attain individuation.”

Thanks for the video, Daniel X.

Lightdragon's comment directly below is from 2013; the time gap is altogether less of an issue in an internet discussion. This is a response to a question that has dogged me and plenty of other yoga enthusiasts.

First - nowhere in the Taoist literature is there the suggestion that pulling blood or any other life source into the more powerful of the two is a good thing. Mantak Chia warns against such loss of energy, which of course it is... possibly physically dangerous when combined with these practices.

The comment's reduction of vampire into an artificial verb - "vampirize" - indicates how ambiguous the science but psychological the problem you are describing.

And it is indeed a problem - the charismatic guru (yoga teacher, glamorous acolyte, horny old ashram leader, even hornier tyro, etc.) fails to balance the energy ( everything from internal to social energy) in the rush have fun, behavior unravels, and the other person feels hurt and a little robbed of a true start in the glorious process. You ask is there a potential to be a psychic vampire rather than an equal - or, barring that - honestly supportive -  partner when the idea of merely getting laid falls so short of exploring tantra. The answer is, this happens all the time. In any relationship, by degrees. All the time. People who open themselves up to yoga have the privilege and burden of being even more vulnerable to these pitfalls - the too arrogant as well as the too susceptible. But we're all humans.

One person's limitation - as in "please respect my limitations and don't push me further to improve" is another person's deal with the devil, as in "I must be too limited at this stage of my evolution to do anything more but use my partner selfishly."

I have a question about tantric and energy exchange.  Is there the potential for, rather than a balanced exchange of energies and merging, to vampirize another's energy in the process?  Isn't that what the Taoists used it for?  Everyone always glamorizes tantric sex but it is really tricky for it not to be just a another line or a fancy way to get laid.  Sorry for being crude, but wanting to hear from someone who keeps it real.

I'm not sure why the link didn't show up in my post.. sorry about that. Glad you found the site. What do you think so far?

On the alchemy realm link you can also read his metaphysics e-book for free. I really liked the way he breaks down consciousness, the astral plane, and the reality that we live in.
