There is an process in the Work which has helped me immensely to sustain the moment of being 'present' (self-remembering) & that process is at the very foundation of real  'self observation.

I, myself, being a product of the Nyland/Toomer lineage in the Work, have come to know 'self observation' as a means of entering '1st conscious shock'/man #4.....however, this entrance could not be possible without first completing the last possibility of man #1,2,3.......For me, this is done through sensing my body, bringing about an active effort of attention. 

 

So with this in mind for me, real self observation would have to include 3 major points:

 

1) Observation, which is simultaneously done impartially, objectively & again including sensing. Once this is sustained, I move on to #2

 

2) Participation. Once sustained, I am ready to proceed to #3

 

3) Experimentation.

 

These 3 points also sounds the "Do", "Re", "Me" of the Kesdjan/emotional body.

Try this:  When you can remember, simply freeze right where you are for at least one minute.  Be completely where you are.

I am a very involved 'Gurdjieffian" although I do not identify with it.  I am an independent mystic who uses the methods for personal evolution.  Many of the exercises have been useful to me to transcend my usual boundaries.  Can't see how you "join" the group here, though.

Ditto to what Tris said.  For some reason, I have never gotten around to investigating him (his works), but I have been aware of him, and also Ouspensky, for years and years.

We need in everything we listen to and speak be clear on what the terms mean and how we understand it.
