Is the stunning lack of Scientific/Historical/Religious Literacy of Americans a metaphor for the lack of inner literacy? Part 1

What do you say when you meet someone who does not know the earth revolves around the Sun or that Jesus was a Jew? Does it matter?

What do you think these surveys mean?

Despite the information explosion over the past ten years the surveys below give us a profound look into the awareness of our fellows:

  • California Academy of Sciences: 47% of Americans do not know that it takes a year for the Earth to go around the Sun.
  • National Science Board: 30% of Americans do not know the Earth revolves around the Sun.
  • Gallup Poll: 45% of Americans do not know the reason July 4th is celebrated: The Signing of the Declaration of Independence.
  • PEW Religious Research Survey: The 32 questions were general and also specific to the respondents own religion. Most respondents flunked.

The height of irony:

Atheists and agnostics got an average of 20.9 out of 32 questions right.Higher than any religious group except the Mormons. Survey Results:  NY Times:

¶ Fifty-three percent of Protestants could not identify Martin Luther as the man who started the Protestant Reformation.

¶ Forty-five percent of Catholics did not know that their church teaches that the consecrated bread and wine in holy communion are not merely symbols, but actually become the body and blood of Christ.

¶ Forty-three percent of Jews did not know that Maimonides, one of the foremost rabbinical authorities and philosophers, was Jewish.

Fox News tried to do a survey recently about "who killed Christ" and faced enormous criticism.  Why are people threatened by a question?

But then again....no one thing is ever to blame for anything as with Hitler and the Jews.

Except silence?

No one has done a survey to determine how many people know or do not know if Jesus was a Jew and did not invent Christianity or the Catholic Religion.

Yet I met a man who comes to my complex every Sunday to serve communion to those who cannot attend mass. He assumed I was Catholic from my last name (Italian) and invited me to "receive" if I had confessed, etc.   In our brief discussion I found out that he did not know Jesus was a Jew! I noticed his shoulders got a little more bent with this disclosure.

What I did not say and I regret now is that I "confess" to Source and say "if I knew better I would have done better." It is me that has to forgive me. I am here to learn from contrasts and this I KNOW.

Light is information and information is Light.

In the final analysis:  MAYBE NONE OF THE ABOVE MATTERS.

  • But why are we still having religious wars when we do not even know what our own religion stands for? Yet we make our religion "our god" better than others????
  • How patriotic are we when we don't even know why America was founded? Yet we condemn other countries ideologies????

What if all beliefs are shit? What if it is good that no one really knows anything? That is ........until they listen to the truth of their own heart.

Colin Firth as a King trying to express his anger....in his academy award winning performance.

Are we not all Academy Award winners.....playing a role????

What does all this mean? Does it matter? IS SHIT EVER GOOD????

Being.....it is complex and in my saner moments I know it does all matter. They say there is a fine line between sanity and insanity!!! As an empath I know I pick up on energies across the planet and I have to breath out the turmoil to transmute it to Peace. The Buddhist call this Ton Glen. We are all here to learn through contrast.

But oh....that contrast! HA HA......I am glad though when I get my shorts in a knot and then begin to ? ? ? ? - it brings up stuff that needs to be cleared. Yah know.... the many gauze like layers that comprises the ego.... every time I work til the another light bulb goes on and I get to a deeper place of allowing....

Rob......yes, the key is curiosity. Curiosity opens genius not ours but THE Genius....within.....some call Source. Ask and you shall receive. It is true. Yes integration.....and it is essential.....then we stop casting our shadow..... Mother Teresa when she was a very young nun had an awakening where she owned her shadow....she knew she had all the capability to be a Hitler. She at that very powerful moment of self realization....understood the power of choice.

The Western mind at least in the US is trained to not question. As a result the rate of creativity a child starts with diminishes by the end of 12 years of education to 30%.

But we here in the US have allowed many of our rights, freedoms to be eroded without even noticing. We live in a time when everything is tapped. At some point we will stand and take down our own Berlin Wall which is considerable because it is so covert.

It is all a  paradox is it not?  What is before our eyes seems so overwhelming and it can be unless we realize we are all playing roles and we are learning from contrast. Pain is the Soul's guarantee that at some point we will wake up when we have learned enough from pain.

All is love or love in disguise. So there is good shit. ......

This stuff constantly goes thru my mind. I do not come up with definitive answers either.

I have also  often asked  that question; Does it matter IN THE BIG PICTURE?
